Here’s how teletherapy works in my practice.
Pull up your couch and your beverage and get comfy. Food is ok, too!
My practice is ALL done through teletherapy, nowadays.
“Back in the day,” also known as “prepandemic,” I loved to be able to offer tea and, as needed, Kleenexes to my clients. But we’ve come a long way in a pretty short time. All this change has brought some good news, as well, with the most important revelation being that, in study after study — and by now there have been many — telehealth is shown to be just as effective as is in-person counseling. Plus, you save time and money, and it’s easier on the environment. And, you know, don’t forget about the bunny slippers!
At this time I hold psychology licenses in both California and Washington State, so as long as you are a resident of either, I’m able to see you as my client.
So, hello to everyone (and to their bunny slippers) in all counties and cities and addresses in the states of Washington and California. Want to work together?
How do we connect online?
Please feel free to relax if this is at all stressful — I’ll explain this all again, and lead you through it step by step, after we’ve agreed to start working together.
You’ll be connecting through email for each of our sessions. I will send you, in email, a link to click on, using your computer, tablet, or smart phone. It’s done through a secure, confidential Google platform called Google Meet.
Once you’ve got this down, you can literally click in to our meeting faster than it takes to warm up a cup of coffee or tea in the microwave!
We will be able to see each other after I “accept” you into our meeting, with my own click of a button. It’s so fast, I’ll already have my own coffee off to the side. And as you can see, for those of your for whom this is all new, I’m working to show that this part of learning to set up meetings should honestly be no more difficult than, well, learning to warm tea in a microwave for a minute. Truly. Once you’ve got it, you’ve got it.
Phone and Back-Ups
And of course we’ll have alternative options and back-ups. From the start, some people would much prefer just talking on the phone for each session, which is perfectly fine. Honestly, depending on whether you may bring, for example, ADHD to the table, concentration might be so much easier without having to add the visual element as well, as many of my clients have found. And either way works great for me.
